Jesmonite Bench for CField Construction
This sculptural bench was commissioned by CField Construction, for the foyer of one of their new commercial properties in London.
At over 2m long it wasn’t practical to cast this bench. Instead the core is shaped from recycled high-density polystyrene to reduce weight, then layered with a jesmonite and fibreglass surface treatment to harden and protect.
The surface finish is a bespoke pigmented jesmonite mix with fine agragate, creating a subtle fleck that is reminiscent of stone. We also added a mild steel base to the structure with adjustable feet in case of any uneven surfaces.
Sanded smooth, and then sealed, the abstract form provides both a statement art piece and a functional seating space for its new home.
