Most commonly, tulipwood is the greenish yellowish wood yielded from the tulip tree, found on the Eastern side of North America and also in some parts of China. The wood is light but very strong and is used in many applications, including furniture, joining and mouldings.
Tulipwood is an extremely versatile wood which is very easy to work and turn, and is great for nailing, screwing and glueing. It also handles paint, stains and enamels without issue, and dries quickly and easily. There is a high risk of irregular grain so there is an increased risk of movement.
It can also be stained very easily and is often used as a low-cost alternative to walnut and cherry in furniture and doors.
