BENDYWOOD

Bendywood is a wood that bends without steam, it becomes flexible thanks to a special production process. It can be worked like normal wood and subsequently bent in a cold (no heating) and dry (no steaming or wetting) condition.

It is subjected to carefully controlled, longitudinal thermo-mechanical compression. The hardwood is engineered to be extremely flexible (as long as it is moist) therefore affecting the fibers and the range of motion the wood can take. It can take on twisting, and lots of bending without splitting as regular wood veneer might. The advantage of these properties for designers would be to create more organic shapes in wood, specifically in furniture or sculptures.
