Reclaimed Compacted Polystyrene

Our local reclamation yard is the first point of call if a project calls for polystyrene. They have a briquetting machine that compacts used poly into new pieces. Old polystyrene falls into the crushing chamber and are compacted at a volume reduction of around 40 - What results is a dense square block which can be easily stacked on to a pallet.

The 3 methods that effectively make polystyrene reusable are methods known as granulation, compacting, and densifying. The compacted polystyene is then given a new lease of life and can be used for insulation, model making and sculpting purposes.

Make Material Properties

Material Make Used Polystyrene from plastic, used in cups, packaging, and packing materials.
Applications Decorative walls, insultation, model making, sculpting for commissioned or fabricated art.
Sustainability Level Can be reused in creating new reused polystyrene reduces its presence in landfills, it’s important to recycle polystyrene due to the ecological impact it can have. Polystyrene is entirely non-biodegradable. Modern landfills are designed to be sealed, so there is no chance of it biodegrading regardless.
